Want to get your kid a gift that is not only super fun but gives them a glimpse into the future, improves hand-eye coordination, teaches physics, and can be the start of a healthy hobby? The Remote control world and drones is where it is at for the best gift!
I know because I grew up racing remote-controlled cars and trucks, then got into RC airplanes and then into drones. My enjoyment of this hobby was one of the reasons why I pursued a Mechanical Engineering degree. I loved taking things apart and putting them back together and/or customizing them as well.
Look here’s a pic of me many years ago with some friends having a blast racing my Emaxx.
But enough of why it’s such a good idea and let’s get into the list! That’s what you came here for! I compiled most of this list off of Amazon’s website as I know everyone feels safe and confident ordering from them! They are not in any particular order so I would browse through until one jumps out at you! Hope this helps…
Best Gift Ideas!!
#1 – Tomzon A31 Mini Drone
This drone is a solid choice. It has all the standard features and more that are coming with kid’s mini drones these days. Different speed modes, headless mode, Takeoff buttons, 3D flip ability, Return-to-home button, altitude hold, colorful LEDs, and it comes with 2 batteries.
The batteries charge via USB-C which is nice as there is always an extra USB-C cord laying around. There are videos of six-year-olds flying this drone inside a garage doing flips and controlling the flight which I think is quite impressive! Talk about developing motor skills! The small controller seems to fit nicely in younger kids’ hands giving them full control.
Overall from all the cheap garbage drones out there this one seems to be of a slightly higher quality and possibly a great starter drone for a young kid!

#2 – Powerup 4.0 Smartphone Controlled Paper Airplane Kit
When I was a kid growing up I spent countless hours and went through numerous sheets of paper folding paper airplanes. Running upstairs and throwing out the window or off the balcony.
This kit is next level…. It turns your paper airplane into an RC plane that you can fly for up to 10 minutes! Turns that 10-15 seconds of normal paper airplane soaring time all the way up to 10 minutes! Some people note broken antennas and props occur during crashes. Maybe check into extra parts or exercise some caution! But I can see how it would be hard to protect these lightweight components from an aerial crash. Regardless, still worth it in my opinion and seems super fun!

#3 – Makeblock mBot Coding Robot Kit
This gift is a little more STEM-based and educational-based. However, it is perfect for a kid who loves to tinker. Who loves to take things apart, make a mess, figure things out, and innovate. It comes in both blue or pink for the boy or girl who wants to get technical. These are the types of gifts I received as a kid that made me feel like I was a true problem-solver.
It comes with the tools required and the wiring is fairly simple plug-and-play. It has aluminum frame which is nice and as it is not just cheapo plastic! Then there is all the programming you can do with it. It can be operated as a simple RC car, or with the tutorials, it can be automated to avoid obstacles. The programming is taught in a game-based fun way. With the direction the world is moving in, programming will be huge! What a great way to get your kid’s feet wet with it!

#5 – TOP RACE Remote Control Airplane
RC airplanes is how I first got into the remote-controlled world! The pro and con to airplanes is that you need to get out to a park! You need a bit more space but it is nice to get out of the house! This plane is a great starter 3 channel aircraft. Meaning you control the prop speed, the rudder, and the elevator. It also has a 6 -axis stabilization gyro so it is great for beginners!
It has a 320-foot range and a 12 minute flight time. Even a 9 year old managed to get the hang of this plane after a little practice.

Another STEM awesome educational product.
It comes with instructions on how to assemble 12 different types of solar-powered robots. However with 190 different pieces, much can be left to your kid’s imagination on what they want to build.
It also teaches them about solar panel technology as this kit does not even come with batteries! (as it doesn’t need any). All parts are non-toxic ABS plastic.
It builds dexterity, self-confidence and creativity with the vastly different combinations that can be built.

Another solid mini Drone option!
This one actually comes with 3 batteries! However, it is a small palm drone so these are small batteries. The initial product description mentions a 15-18 min flight time, however it is closer to 6-7 minutes. But, that’s why it is nice to have 3 batteries!
It also has different speed options and a kid-friendly remote! It has been truly tried and tested and is a solid option. It also comes in a variety of colors!
